The Hellenic Association for Spina Bifida & Hydrocephalus (H.A.S.B.HY.) is supported by the specialised Medical Children’s Service personnel of the A.P.P.A.C.
The H.A.S.B.HY. is a scientific medical organisation that was created in 1989 in order to help and inform children and adults with Spina Bifida and/or Hydrocephalus, their families and friends, so that they overcome their difficulties and lead an independent, satisfactory and pleasant life.
Apart from offering direct services, the H.A.S.B.HY. aims to promote equal handling for all and to help people with SB in overcoming difficulties in different sectors of life such as education, professional employment and accommodation. Thus along with other relevant organisations, it promotes, educates and informs society not only for the difficulties people with special needs face, but also about their potential.
Emphasis is given to:
Visitation and home treatment
Respecting school schedules so that individuals are not isolated from their social environment
Education of parents (making them co-aids of the therapeutic process) Minimisation of administrative bureaucracy
Speedy first appointment, consultation and reporting from the team of experts, informing parents in a precise and timely manner about the therapeutic process
Briefing of special institutions in Greece and Abroad about existing treatments.
